Supplier due diligence

How to find verified Alibaba suppliers—and verify beyond the badge.

A practical process for small businesses that need evidence before sending a production payment.

Critical point: a Verified Supplier badge reduces uncertainty; it does not replace sample testing, company checks, a precise contract, inspection or protected payment. Verification tells you that a business and capabilities were assessed—not that every future batch will meet your specification.

The seven-layer supplier check

  1. Verification report: open it and compare the legal company, site, equipment and product scope with the sales claims.
  2. Product focus: a coherent catalogue is usually more credible than a supposed factory selling unrelated categories.
  3. Comparable quotation: send the same specification, quantity, packaging and Incoterm to every supplier.
  4. Video and document evidence: request a live factory call, business license, certifications and recent product evidence.
  5. Sample test: measure the sample against written acceptance criteria, not against general appearance.
  6. Inspection plan: define pre-production, during-production or pre-shipment checks based on the risk and order value.
  7. Protected order: keep the specification, payment and shipping obligations inside the Trade Assurance order.

How to read the verification report

Legal identity

Match the company name, address and business scope to the invoice, bank beneficiary and communication signature.

Factory capability

Look for equipment, production lines, quality-control process and capacity relevant to your exact product.

Export experience

Check target markets, certifications, languages and whether the supplier understands your destination's compliance needs.

Business type

A trading company is not automatically bad, but it must not be evaluated as if it were the actual manufacturer.

Questions that expose weak suppliers

  • Which parts of this product are made in-house and which are subcontracted?
  • What is the tolerance for the three most important measurable specifications?
  • Can the sample and production batch use the same materials and process?
  • What quality checks occur before packaging?
  • Which certificates apply to this exact model, not merely to the company?
  • What happens if inspection finds a defect rate above the agreed limit?

Red flags

  • Requests to pay outside the protected platform before trust is established.
  • A bank beneficiary whose legal identity does not match the contracted company.
  • Refusal to provide a live factory view or meaningful verification documents.
  • Prices far below every comparable quote without a clear technical reason.
  • Certificates that name a different product, model or company.
  • Pressure to skip a sample or independent inspection.

A badge is the first filter, not the final decision

The strongest sourcing pages on high-traffic sites often stop at platform filters. Our additional value is turning the badge into a reproducible due-diligence workflow and a written evidence file for each shortlisted supplier.
